So we've been untaxed & Mot'd for over a year now
Just completed all fluid & filter change, together with a new battery in preparation for getting us back on the road. Upon inspection, there's a whole load of deep rust all over the chassis, A Frame etc. Might be time for a chassis swap - any recomendations around the merseyside area. Nearest place seems to be Autodefiance in Deeside. Does anyone have experience of Sheilder chassis?? |

I've just had a new Marsland galv chassis and a galv bulkhead done by Autodefiance. Really pleased with their work. It was supposed to be be a straightforward lift up body swap but once we started the bulkhead was shot and so was the rear tub. Ended up with a full rebuild nearly
The lads at Autodefiance were great, knew their stuff and did a really good job. They were always happy for me to call in during the work to see how they were getting on and finished on time when they said they would. I would recommend them and well worth calling in to see them. |

Wow.....great recommendation Simon.
Did they source the chassis or did you get it yourself??? it's easy enough to buy from them directly. A mate of mine has just ordered one - but be aware they're sitting with roughly a 6 week wait at the moment (that was for a TD5, unsure if it makes any difference)
Also worth painting it before you do the swap. Nothing says "steal me" quite like a bling bling galvanised chassis. I painted mine after it was back together and was a total faff 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320 |

They sourced it from Marsland for me, they were happy for me to source as well but as they were doing the bulkhead it was easier to get them to organsies so all the delivery and start date could be coordinated. There is a paint shop next door to their workshop so they have a quick turn around on painted items. I agree with the idea of painting the chassis. They mordant washed, primed and then raptor coated my chassis, brilliant rock hard finish. The bulkhead had the same treatment except for the sections of the body work that show, these were sprayed as normal. They did a rebuild of two Mountain Rescue Defenders in one of the Mags a few months ago which is where I heard about them. They had a couple of projects on the go at the time so I went down to se their work and chat to them.
