Hi all.
Sorry for my daft question - I feel its daft anyway... (I cant find anything for the short sharp look I have done, and as they aren't standard I assumed they would be different to stock pressures) My Defender is Running Zu alloys with BFG M/T all round... I have noticed that the front look bulgier than the rear. My garage checked air pressure back when I got the defender and had a full service done.. Im slowly learning to maintain it myself... What pressures should I be running front and back? And also im debating whether I should change to some A/T tyres for winter/snow (as advised by the tyre garage) The set he was offering - pricewise seemed excellent for tyres and steelies... I think it was £500ish all in Regards Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

I forgot to add that I was planning a long trip to Scotland to do the nc500 and back again and was worried as my BFG M/T's are perishing and have cracks around the tyre. I was worried that within the 2-3000 miles something may happen and wanted to change them as a preventative measure...
I went to my local tyre place that was advised by my garage & I asked about some BFG A/T's for price and fitting - he quoted me and it was ok - a little more than I expected (I had been mislead about the tyre prices - it wasn't that he was expensive - they were actually competitively priced after I did some further research) They then offered me a compromise - a tyre that was just as good (according to this chap) with steel rims would set me back about the same money, (as ideally I wanted to have a 2nd set for easy change between seasons & offroading/camping) I asked the chap to come and look at the state of my wheels to see what I was on about & the chap at the garage advised that I didn't need to change the tyres at all & they would last the trip easy - Which I was surprised about because I was willing there and then to cough up some dosh and have them changed, but the chap was honest and turned me away - suggesting I came back at xmas IF.. they needed it.. It turned out we didn't do the nc500 & did the cornwall charity run. which was a blast albeit crap weather The chap liked my truck and had a large Ford thing himself, so maybe wanted to look after me.. I was happy with this as he could of took advantage and sold me the most expensive thing but he didn't. So I will be returning for my tyres for as long as I live in the town.. Hi Adam, keep looking around the tyre close to the rim and you will find a 4 digit number in a sort of window. That is the date of production code.
Brendan Edited to add have a look here and you will see an example of what the age code looks like. |

I had another look for the codes - but no luck, even had a mechanic mate have a look, and we can only find a code that 8 digits - but doesn't look like a date either...

From what i can deduce Adam17’s tyres date back before the year 2000 when the 4 digit production date was introduced? Would explain why they look like my grandmothers skin!

They are stamped DOT - I would say those were made in week 8 of 2011
