There is a harness connector in the A-post (and B-post on a vehicle with second-row seats) to allow the door to be unplugged from the vehicle.
If you pull the rubber sleeve away from the A-post you can manipulate the connector out of the A-post and unplug it. In practice you don't usually need to disconnect the door from the vehicle to change the hinges, and you're generally better off supporting the door careful and changing one hinge at a time - this makes maintaining alignment easier. |

Ok, that makes sense actually. I'll do it a hinge at a time
At least that means I can get the hinges changed, and worry about the horror show inside the door in a few weeks I did have a look inside the door pillar, but I thought it would be optimistic to get the clips through the hole, but if you've done it that gives me a bit more confidence for when it does have to come off |

It's easier on the B-post which has openings into the vehicle, but I don't think there is any other way to access the connectors on the A-post, from what I remember.
