The concept is the same as you'd use for a 2 way switch in the house e.g. for the stairs:

The switch type is known as SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw). For your purpose you'll need to find a version which has terminals specifically for the indicator lamp/LED. Or mount the LED/indicator in its own bezel.

Buy the On-Off-On Carling switches from Mud UK. Make sure they are the 10 pin variety. You can utilise Pole set 1 for the actual feed and pole set 2 for the illumination LED with a couple of jumper wires. Thats what I've done for many vehicles I've installed them into. Found an illuminated Carling switch which is On-on SPDT which is what I need ( I think).
Will see how the Mud one compares price wise |
