Well I guess its evidence of just how strong a Discovery 2 is but I would not recommend trying this!!!

A friend of mine was involved in an accident whilst driving a D2 a few years ago that resulted in a barrel roll at about 50mph. She walked away unscathed, as did her dog. Very strong vehicles, probably second only to the D3 (and D4). Darren

Shocking how it all goes wrong so quick at higher speeds!

Or evidence of how easily it rolls. That's bloody frightening. |

Yes about it rolling easy, high centre of gravity, heavy body and soft suspension never good, I was always wary of this with my old discovery on motorways/fast roads.
I think at least defenders have a lighter body and stiffer suspension so hopefully a bit less likely to flip like that, but obviously don't have as much strength in the body for protection in the event! |

Good thing nobody was coming up the slip road.
I wonder how they managed to set that off?. |

An unfortunate case of rapid lane change, I suspect!
That's assuming the tyre pressures were ok, otherwise it might not have been an intended 'rapid' lane change! |

Or perhaps they clipped the grass on the central reservation and over corrected?

As has been said that Transit looks suspicious, it seems to me that 9 times out of 10 there's a van involved, it was probably tailgating the Discovery distracting the driver, i see it all the time.

The Discovery 2 had ACE (active cornering), this is very efficient and much better that any stiff suspension or solid ARB on a Defender... A Defender would have been a lot worse, and I'm not even talking about the driver! “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique. -- 2009 2.4 Puma Defender 90 SW 1979 Land Rover Series 3 88" |

Yes I know the discovery 2 had ace, I used to have one and it was very good to a point, however you still have that heavy body and high centre of gravity so when it does go wrong it happens suddenly and unexpectedly. One could say it may encourage spirited driving in a completely inappropriate vehicle for that type of driving.
However in the video above, nobody knows exactly what happened or if the vehicle had a defect of some sort. Mike |
