Fuse board removal
Hi guys,

How easy is it to get to the back of the fuse board to use the spare fuse slots? I had a quick snoop the other week and it didn't look good.
I needed a switched pos so ended up tagging on to the cig lighter socket as there is not much load on the circuit i figured this would be acceptable throughout a 3 amp inline fuse. But its just bugging me its cause i know its there

You could always look at the fuse box under the seat, there will be a switched live under there

I'm debating tagging a switched live then using this to operate a relay that switches a live direct to an aux fusebox (also with its own in line fuse) and running any acc from this spare fuse box? (IYKWIM) Confused

Why overcomplicate what you are trying to achieve? Just fit an auxillary fusebox like a Blue Sea and be done with it? Cannot see the point or benefit of switching the live feed to a fusebox via a relay at all? Any circuits fitted to the fusebox will be limited by the current carrying capacity of the relay you fit. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

It just means that anything you want to switch off when the ignition is switched off does. You can't forget and leave any aux stuff on to flatten the battery Embarassed

Good point but like with spotlights the triggering signal is taken from an ignition switched signal and the main supply from the auxillary fusebox. Depends really how things are wired up but yes a basic belt and braces approach like yours would work to prevent battery drainage.
Dependant on how many circuits your auxillary fusebox will run once you get into the realms of 50 amps plus you may find the appropriate relay to switch it wil skyrocket in cost as it will have to be heavier duty. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

I fitted some DRLs to the bumper, then ran the wire up the wing and through the bulkhead so it would be logical to go straight into the back of the main fuse board, pick up switch live and fuse the circuit using one of the spare slots.

But i was pushed for time and tagged it on the fag lighter socket. I know it will be ok but it just bugs me knowing its not quite right. Plus i thought while i was in there i would run out a couple of other wires for future mods.

I could get to the four m6 nuts but wasn't sure if the board would come out.

I needed to tag onto the lighter and sidelight fuse for my DRLs so I just used piggyback fuses like these:

There wasn't any other sensible option due to German laws about how the DRLs switch on and off. However, to make sure they wouldn't come out, I used crimpers to curve the blades a bit and now they sit very tight Thumbs Up

*Edit* I also thought it was "not quite right" to start with but then when you look at the way the rest of the vehicle is put together... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...
