actually the friendly dealer updated me with 2300 Euro today - it's bad enough to be "bad" but not bad enough to scrap it p.s. don't let Mal upset you like me (and many others) you have been through Hell and finally reached "enlightenment"... now just enjoy it while it lasts Matt Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

No offence intended, but you don't get something for nothing and in you're apparent perpetual drive for fuel economy you leave yourself open to other problems. Too high a gear too low an engine speed gives excessive fuel economy but at what cost/damage to the engine and drive train. I would suggest not mentioning these fuel economy figures to Land Rover in case they use it as a reason to void the warranty on the engine and drive train. LANDYWATCH

no offence taken.
all i can say is I've never had a previous vehicle have any mechanical failures previously in the 25 years I've been driving (excluding my present 110) and by driving style hasn't changed - that said I hear you loud and clear. (thats quite a statement isn't it in 25 years of driving I've had no mechanical failures - and then all this on just one vehicle - I guess its either payback time or it says something pretty poor about LR) ? - I tell a lie - I had an M3 many moons ago and I had a new LSD replaced under warranty but that was noisy - it never let me down, its all coming flooding back now I did get let down in a seat ibiza - there's a little plastic part in the gear linkage that broke and prevent me from changing gears (perhaps lack of use - was always in 5th getting max economy so one day when I went to change gear it broke ) I believe its very easy to hear when you're putting excessive strain on the engine / transmission and obviously I try to aviod that (admittedly I don't always get it right). anyhow just got back and the orange light did come on ..... at 513.2miles. |

You've never had an Alfa Romeo then? Rather than criticise your driving style, I'd rather you told us the secrets to get such good economy. |

no real sectrets other than driving slow.
this tankful has done me a return trip from swansea, return trip to sheffield and a return trip to bedford and some pottering around. so mostly A roads and motorway - so quite alot of 50 - 55 mph stuff. when the engine is running nice I'll give it almost max throttle in 3rd 4th 5th upto c2250 rpm (sometime more) but always keen to get into top quite quickly. so to my mind the engine is filling its lungs etc but at lower revs ie to me its just as good to give the engine full throttle at say 2500 rpm as it is to have light throttle at say 4000 rpm (for those that advocate thrashing the engine) - clearly this is only my opinion and I'm no expert but doesn't seem to have done harm previously. and no - no alfa's |

a warning for those that drive slow. good fuel economy can lead to poor economy !!!
there's more about this on another thread. still can't believe what I've been told. driving in a straight line at a constant speed can knacker your tyres !! turns out my tyres have worn out in a saw tooth patern and has now lead to vibrations like poor wheel balance. so although only 50% worn its time for some new tyres |

hello, I have also read but could be my poor English, but it seems that I am not concerned should I have some problems, I will tell you about your tyres, could be also your shock absorber, or something else and spend a lot of money and never find Phil current : defender 110 sw 2.2 puma 2012 and 230.000km today and again my Range Rover VM2.5 engine from 1992 and 528.000km today. Right gents (mainly Caterham),
I have upped the challenge. I had a nice drive from Croatia to Western Italy. I covered just over 550 miles in one day. I started with a full tank. Light came on at 528 miles (got to garage at 532 miles). Filled up with 66.5L. MPG: 36.37mpg (7.7l/100Km) To achieve this I was chilling out at 55-60mph behind large trucks. If there weren't toll booths and road works I reckon 600 to a tank is possible (and if doing the maths I could probably done it on that trip if I had the balls to drive until on fumes..... Not bad considering I am running mud terrains and just short of 3 tons. Glyn |

will be checking my reciepts later to confirm what my best was......its going to be close. very well done.....just check them tyres out. driving at 'moderate' speeds and 'in straight lines at constant speed' may well shag them. very well done tho. who's gonna break the 600 mile mark ??? I wont' on this tank but I have done just over 300 on the first half..... |

Truck drivers have it hard enough to be fair, with 30+ gears and a 30+ tonne load. They want to be able to keep their foot down and go the speed of the limiter on the motorway which sometimes means you gain on the truck I front if your limiter is different slightly to theirs, so an overtake is required to allow easy cruising after again. Just remember that the 30sec overtake may be annoying but it's more annoying for them driving for hours catching and letting off the truck in front! Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |
