I would say the noise between gear changes is the turbo waste gate venting to atmosphere rather than internally - at least it was on the Scooby Doo I used to hillclimb Mr. Green Rob

I wonder whether a similar effect could be achieved at a fraction of the Alive cost with just a decat and centre silencer delete

My 90 is running a BAS remap to 180 with BAS inter-cooler & hoses, marrying that all up is a Griffin Exhaust! This gives it a very nice growl and the Woosh noise you are after between gear changes. I have tried to Video it but my phones crap! If you are near Wiltshire or oxford i am happy to take you out in it! 2007 2.4 90 fettled & remapped.

Yes, we have a Case 360 Excavator with a Cummins Turbo Diesel - the silencer was replaced with a 3” pipe, previously there was absolutely no whoosh at all. Now with the straight pipe you get an absolutely fantastic whoosh from the turbo when the throttle is released - Exactly the same scenario as if you were changing gears in a manual vehicle.

If you want the whoosh - just ditch the silencer

Cheers guys,

Thanks Pux146 I may take you up on that offer!
New exhaust then intercooler, then a hybrid turbo maybe? Do they really make that much of a difference? Enough to justify the cost? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

I’ve got a lot more torque, fuel is better unless my right foot gets heavy! The exhaust sounds lovely but...on long journeys it can drone a bit! I have thought about upgrading the turbo, that’s currently on the back burner due to cost. If I could do anything to make it go better with the above then possibly change the diff ratios and the rubbish first gear. Is it worth the money....how longs a piece of sting! It’s all down to your wallet! 2007 2.4 90 fettled & remapped.

Although a light tune is great bearing mind if you go much further you’ll likely reduce the lifespan of the engine and many other components. Perhaps not significantly but will do so in the long run.
This is why I’ve stayed with a stage 1, but everyone to their own decisions for what they see fit.
Also don’t forget the air box mod, that is free after all. Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

If you use the search function you should find the relevant info on here already.
You simply carefully cut out the top of the inlet section inside the air box, and remove the water separator too.

I've ran mine lie this with no issues at all for years already, there isn't that much to be achieved but you may get a little more intake growl and sharper throttle response.

Don't expect to be amazed but it does help reduce restriction and when tested by BAS the figures did show this also.
Although tested with RAI's and without I believe Pete also tested with and without the airbox mod done.
The results were a slight reduction in restriction, especially helpful if you have a Snorkel like mine does.
If you have a Snorkel or RAI the air box mod will mor ear less counteract the added restriction back to factory spec or very near.*
If you don't have a Snorkel or RAI then there is a little more to gain further, it's worthwhile either way in my opinion.
I have never had the slightest issue with mine.
Thumbs Up No Guts, No Glory.

Wonder what the sound would be like with a rear silencer delete Whistle

Is anybody aware of any information existing on hollowing out a factory defender TDCI catalytic converter?
