Very cool.
Couple of thoughts. What have JLR replaced it with? Be interesting to know if it’s a more modern Def (Puma 2.2?) modified in the same way, or something else entirely? It wouldn’t be a little ironic if on decommissioning Defenders they used a Defender (being the world’s most versatile vehicle) to become the replacement. ![]() Those 300W halogen search lights would be good for reversing in the dark. Wonder if FlatDog stock them? ![]() I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Or for £22k you could have a bit space in your camper, seat 9 and still have the red paintwork....

It is certainly eye-catching but I have to say that whenever I see a 6-wheel Landrover all I see is an example of starting with the wrong base vehicle.
The only possible reason for adding a third axle (apart from purely cosmetic reasons) is to increase the permissible GVW, and if you're doing that to a Landrover of any type you should have started with a stronger vehicle. I can understand LR building this particular vehicle since it was for their own use, and starting with a 5-tonne-plus GVW base vehicle, which would have been the sensible thing to do, would be seen as an admission that the Defender wasn't suitable, a message that LR wouldn't want to give. Every performance aspect of the Defender has been compromised by adding the third axle, tyre wear, handling, off-road capability, etc. The only thing it can to is carry an extra tonne of water (without the tank full the GVW is within the limit of a standard Defender with HD suspension). But it does look cool and turn heads, that is undeniable! |

The sad thing about it is that a perfectly good Stage 1 V8 died to create it, and whilst it looks quite cool I bet it is awful to drive and of fairly limited usefulness. If it had been built on a two-axle 5-ton 4x4 chassis it would be a whole lot better and there'd be a highly-desirable Stage 1 V8 on the road still.
