Crankshaft change with a difference!
The firm of ALE Heavylift often produces interesting videos of its work, which I tend to watch when I get the time. Usually these are heavy haulage projects, but I recently came across this video of a crankshaft change with a difference. It certainly makes most jobs on a Defender seem straightforward.

Count the chain hoists in use if you can, it is quite impressive.

It's when you realise that they have to go through the rigmarole of taking the old crank back off the ship!
Be a bit of a Censored if they took the new one down into the engine room and it was facing the wrong way as there can't be much room to spin it round.

Thank you blackwolf for that, it was very interesting how they got the new crankshaft into place and the only thing they did not mention is how long the whole job took, start to finish i mean, any idea's ? 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

If you open it up in youtube, in the lower title/info bit it says:

The exchange took three days to complete following one week's preparation

Very impressive.

Hope no one at the end said, did someone remember to fit that washer/widget/thingamagig before we bolted everything down?.

Wonder how much that little engine job cost?

Handling a 7.5 tonne crankshaft in confined space often at angles shows careful planning and skilled handling.
