Sound proofing & matting

I’ve been doing some tweaks to the Landy to help quieten it down a bit, put Dynamat in the front end and under bonnet, then recently did the rear load space and wheel arches. Saved a few bob by buying a similar sound proofing for the arches in black. To protect it I’ve covered it in 3mm ribbed rubber matting, edged with some chequer plate. Really pleased and it’s noticeably quieter, especially in the wet. Couple of photos to show the stages.

Sounds good.

Out of interest, did the under bonnet make much of a difference on its own?

Hello Mike, it did calm the tinny sound from the bonnet, so yes, not a huge difference, but noticeable. The rear load space and arches made the biggest change. Well pleased with it now. If you’re doing your bonnet, take it off and lay it on a few blankets, as it’s so much easier and less back braking.

Thanks for that, yes I am considering under bonnet soundproofing and was curious about the results, mine is a td5, being a csw it has full carpeting throughout but nothing under the bonnet.

May be worth a go and it's not expensive to do, thanks for the tip on best way to fit it Thumbs Up

I personally wouldnt bother with the bonnet, as on a tdi its lots of pieces, but may be easier on a TD5.

Noise killer do one which is in three pieces for td5.
It's really just to gauge whether it's worth the bother, the bonnets are very tinny without anything under so must help a bit. Having said I guess most of the engine noise comes through the bulkhead anyway!

Would bother with the bonnet, little to achieve and will justmake it heavier with increased wear on hinge shims. No Guts, No Glory.

There is more of a benefit for pre-Puma bonnets as they're more susceptible to resonance vibration than the later ones. The Puma bonnet has less big flat panels and is therefore inherently more rigid. Darren

Good point about the change of bonnet shape on the puma models, it makes sense that the flat ones would resonate more. Thumbs Up
