To chequer plate, or not to chequer plate?

Been thinking of chequer-plating the sills black (on a cairns blue 90). It’s a 2013 with corrosion free sills, so would putting chequer plate on protect them from corrosion or actually trap the dirt and moisture in?

If installed correctly, they won't make a jot of difference. However, installing them does involve drilling holes in the cills, which negates the idea that they're being protected.

If you like the look then do it. Replacing the cills is an easy task if you ever decide to revert to standard. Darren

And if you fit sliders I'll buy you sills

as previous owner put checker plate on mine including the obligatory holes!! Thank god they stopped there

The main idea behind it is function over how it looks, so if you don’t need it there is little point. It has saved mine from damage many a time in places and is nice to polish out if need be. I don’t however like any coated CP or it on a bonnet No Guts, No Glory.
