The rear speakers are built into the light covers, on each side inside the rear door. All XS models have them.
The purple wire on a vehicle of yours' age should be behind the drivers side cover but is sometimes taped up with the towing electrics and concealed behind the mud shield at the rear of the wheel arch. Thanks both. Just saying I've never noticed a speaker there - will have to check when I get home. Certainly never detected any music coming from the back when I have the radio on.
But if it is standard with XS spec, then must be there. |

If you look at the linky above (in my first post), there's lots of info reading down the thread about where people have located that Purple wire on different specs and different vintages of Puma and TD5...(as Darren alludes...) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

This power feed was in mine also, made it easy to add a double USB Plug / Charging port right in the rear speaker panel.
