As above please, won't be doing anything about it for a while yet but running BFG KM2s on what is essentially a road vehicle is crazy, they are noisy and ruin my MPG. I want to keep them for off-road and poor weather use, but ideally want a set of road tyres (or at least very mild all terrains) for general use to keep noise down and maybe help handling and mpg. So what do we suggest?

Fitted Grabber HTS a few months back. For the road they are excellent.

I disagree I did almost 60k miles on my factory fitted continentals before I changed them when they were down to about 3mm of tread. They are the only tyre I’ve ever driven on Salisbury plains and have never got stuck. They also served me well in Scotland when we got hit with a buck load of snow in 2010. Same here. I’m keeping my BFG for off road but on road the Grabber HTS I fitted are better in noise, comfort, mpg (noticably), handling and best of all braking distance especially in the wet.

For the use that you describe I would go with the conti's. In that respect I reckon they easily out perform BFG AT's.
That being said I changed to BFG's because they look better. And I'm a bit of a tart. |

I'm thinking along the same lines as the OP as I'll be doing extensive mway mileage over the coming year for a new job. My BFGs are very noisy and not great for grip, especially on Alpine twistys which I'll also tackle. But, vain though it may be, looks have a baring. With this in mind I'm thinking Cooper Zeon. Good reviews everywhere, plus look almost as good as the STMaxx which in my opinion is the best looking tyre around (my BFGs were fitted by Bowler). I plan to make the swap in April.

I have Grabber RTs on my Landy and they are great on the motorway in rain& snow.
Don’t know much about BGGs but I think they look more macho 🧐! |

Mine wore out in just over 30k from new in a year. And all four wore out equally, so no issues with tracking. I think it was due to lots of miles on stone-surfaced forest roads, as I have read that as you suggest lots of people indeed do get ~50-60k out of a set with mainly normal macadam road usage. Conversely my last set of BFG ATs lasted 72k with all sorts of usage across their life. And I've noticed no changes in noise levels or fuel efficiency between the Continental Cross-Contacts, Michelin Latitudes, BFG AT old style or indeed the BFG AT new style. I don't think I'd go back to 'true' road tyres now as I don't see a benefit over ATs. There is no doubt a benefit to be had if you are currently running MTs though. |

Always been very satisfied with my Cooper AT/3's. Rather civilized, silent, good grip on wet tarmac and surprisingly good for greenlaning and light offroad. Even got me out of axle deep mud. Average fuel consumption too.

I recently went from BFG 265’s to a road biased 235 Michelin Latitude Cross. I’m very happy with them. It was a toss up between these and the Conti’s and I went for the Michelin’s as I go to France on holiday! Producer / glasses-wearer / Londoner (& er Oxfordshire) 🎬 👓 💂♂️
