this is interesting: if one believes the dude from Lucky8, the radiators are high up unlike in the D5.

The new RAM 1500 pickup already has a 48 volt mild hybrid called ETorque. Ive driven one. It’s seamless and you cant even notice its there. That’s the problem. It’s not a detriment but its also nothing nearly as beneficial as they had hoped as far as providing any meaningful low end torque, passing power, fuel savings or anything else they claimed....except adding an extra $1,450.00 to the price tag. In the end, its useless in the big trucks with already high torque/horsepower V8s. Even the V6 equipped ones are not much benefit to write home about. Where its been most beneficial is on Jeeps with 4 bangers with gutless low end grunt and peaky turbos. So I’m not a huge critic and I’m not a fan either. So far, mild hybrids like ETorque have been a nothing-burger. I’m still not sure LR could provide something better. We’ll see. PS. This mild hybrid is nothing like a Prius. It’s just a little electric motor (errr, belt start generator) in an aluminum box. Powered by a battery about the size of a small briefcase and is charged with regenerative energy. If you want to get a better idea, research ETorque. I agree with the video, people just need to get over it not having the solid axle...seriously, get over it. This thing will go anywhere you want or need it to. Everyone will be surprise at the looks when the covers come off. Won’t please all the die hards but it will soften them some. We’ll see it in August or September. 2018 RAM Power Wagon (American Muscle) 2003 Land Rover Discovery II HSE 7 (Still deciding on its role) 2004 Land Rover Discovery II SE (British Steel...& aluminum) 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE Lux (Soccer Mom car) |

So that guy is suggesting it is on the new platform rather than the current Disco one. That has always seemed to make more sense with LR saying all models will migrate to it by 2025ish.
Also by making it mild hybrid, it gives them the new model/upgrade path in successive years as they just move incrementally to full electric. The discussion regarding live axles vs independent air suspension appears to be a rerun, for those of us old enough to remember, of the leaf spring vs coils debate. Only this time around the coils are no longer the young pretender. The king is dead, long live the King. One thing I will say about the air suspension, is I hope they have altered the geometry from previous generations of RRS. If you put it into the highest off road setting all it did was tuck the wheels under the car to an alarming angle. Huge amounts of positive camber, tyres nearly running on the sidewalls. |

Obviously, the big driver for the hybrid type setups is the ever-tightening emissions regulations which seem, currently at least, to lead into this "form over function" trend, I guess it's all part of the evolution process and hopefully, as the technology develops they can only get better.
So far as the beam axle vs independent suspension argument goes, having had a couple of D3's in the past and used them off-road, I can only say they are just as capable as any defender or Disco 1 in lightly modified form, (suspension lift & lockers.) Also, the independent setup, (whether bags or coils,) has a significantly reduced unsprung weight which helps to improve the road manners, especially when you take into account the massive heavy tyres that some people fit to their beam axled vehicles in order to get the bottom of the diff a bit further off the ground. (Or in some cases I suspect, just for the "look".) |

Not sure there is anything to knock there.
I'd have loved LR to have given me the option of a galvanised chassis; and is the prices from is to be believed it looks like it could be great value for money |

Sounds all great, but how is a 2.4 Puma going to meet Euro 5 (or is it now already Euro 6) norm for new car registrations ? No way to still register a new car which only meets Euro 4 here in Europe, and that includes the U.K., also post Brexit. A small Polish company going to economically improve the Euro norm of a Puma 2.4? No way. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

They must be using donor vehicles surely. How can they be registering "new" Defenders in the EU? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

And what do Landrover have to say about it? If they are sueing people for using the word landy I can’t see them being happy with a total copy of their vehicle. Ray
