Did they add those oil spots on the ground to give some credibility to the new model?
And like others have mentioned there seems to be a lot of mud traps on the underneath due to that shielding. Fair enough it will dry and cake solid but it will be a problem when your friendly MOT man has it up on the ramp. He will not be happy with those areas caked in mud. But how are you supposed to clean it out? On the old model you could access the underneath with a garden hose that will not work with the new model. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

No if you want a real seven seater you buy a Discovery 5 - mine has been brilliant for the the last three years.
I just prefer a more utilitarian vehicle so I'm getting a new Defender but I'm sure I'll miss the TDV6 D5 a lot. I think the 130 version of the Defender will address the rear load space issue. |

Remember people saying that the Defender was out dated and needed a serious revamp to bring into modern times? Well look what they got. There's the old adage "Be careful what you wish for.." 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

What you suggest with the lack of durability of the “rubber” interior would be a very significant interior design flaw that needs fleshing out. Do you or does anyone else in the forum have any details on the material chosen for these interior surfaces (example: dashboard frame) that would suggest summer heat would transform the materials and degrade them permanently? |

Maybe Khan will bring out a stupidly expensive dashboard carpet with tassels on it to protect the dash plastics melting.

Hi goodtimes. I don't have any details of the rubber used. And it could be perfectly OK and give years of faultless service.
But I have had bad experiences with "tactile" rubber like coatings on a couple of products. A very expensive Bang & Olufsen music centre and an Eton world band radio. Both had a soft touch coating that was very durable when new, but after about 10 years the coating on both started to feel sticky to the touch and any dust that settled on them would be glued to the surface. Same thing happened to a British Army sleeping bag I had which had a waterproof base. I am perhaps worried over nothing and have no evidence that the coating will be a problem. I guess only time will tell. |

Thanks lohr500 - I have had similar issues with consumer products as well and know what you mean. If I learn anything new from my dealer I will share it with everyone.

I have recently had the gooey-rubber experience on some very expensive Canon camera equipment, I was not at all impressed.

I'll give JLR the benefit of assuming they have put a bit of thought into the materials used, but it will be interesting to see how they react to various combinations of cleaners, polishes and other chemicals that owners and dealers apply to them.
