^^^ That’s because the new RRS was a sensible, attractive and considered evolution of the previous model(s) as all the RRs have seen. Also, same usability, target audience, finish, budget etc.
The new Def on the other hand, at least to us owners of Puma/Pre-Puma varients, have seen a vehicle that loses the evolution. In looks, affordability, adaptability, character, simplicity etc. Also in terms of target demographic. It is a new car for a new audience. Or for a Discovery audience. But for most (by no means all) of us, we’ve been forgotten/ignored/excluded. No matter, I love my DCPU, so I’m happy.... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

People should try to grow up. You don't like it, you don't read it. That way we don't need a new forum. No need to act like an "old Defender snob".

Why the 2020 Land Rover Defender Is Great Off-Road: https://www.motortrend.com/cars/land-rover...es-review/
"... Air Suspension Air suspensions are usually huge no-nos for off-roading—despite the fact Land Rover has been using them for years. The issue is simple: At maximum travel (which is necessary for maximum ground clearance) the air bag becomes stiff and unwieldy, making impacts harsh, slowing you down, and increasing the odds that something goes wrong. Where the Defender's optional air suspension differs from prior systems is that it uses multiple stages in its long-travel air suspension. This means that even at max off-road height there's still plenty of travel and impact absorption left in the suspension. The four corners of the air suspension are also cross-linked. This means that when one corner of the air suspension has fully compressed, it pushes the air to the opposite side of the truck, pushing the wheel down and back on the ground like a live axle vehicle would, thereby increasing traction. ..." -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

Very enjoyable. I remember when Top Gear was like that. Engaging and it was actually about the car and not the personalities presenting the show. Yep the days of William Wollard and Co. I suppose it is like the choice between the old Top Gear (read old Defender) and the New Top Gear from J Clarkson onwards (read New Defender).
Speed was never my thing so the ability to travel over the rough stuff quickly would not be a deal breaker for me. The lack of over all clearance between the floor and the ground would be an issue with me. I didn't see anything in that, that the older Defender would not be capable of doing, albeit it at a more modest pace. Personally I do not find the old Defender cramped. Then I am not 6 foot let alone 6ft 4 or 6ft 5. I find the forward vision is excellent. If I'd be following the convoy in my tdi or Puma I would probably have arrived at the destination while the others had arrived, showered, packed, boarded the plane, crossed the Atlantic and arrived back in Europe. But , like I said speed was never my thing... 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

I went on the LR Defender configurator last night, my god, the options go on and on, if you ticked them all you would need a serious wallet. I couldn't find the option Character though. The price jump for the different engines is eye watering to start with. Lets you know what you're in for.
