Expedition to where for goodness sake, Centre Parcs? This isn't the late 1940's or '50's where vast swathes of wilderness still exist to be conquered and subdued by the internal combustion engine crashing through tropical rain forests or trundling across vast plains teeming with wildlife. No, expeditions these days are in the minds of metrosexual city types who enjoy a bit of rock climbing, surfing and kayaking at weekends, or fresh out of university types who want to investigate what few wild species are left by nailing transmitters to them to extract data they could easily discover by asking what few genuine locals exist. The world has gone mad. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

I’ll buy the first person to post a photo (as an owner) of the new Defrauder in-line with 15 other Defrauders on a meet like this, a pint. Not as an imposter in a classic Defender gathering, but on their own gathering. I think i’ll be long-gone before it is ever likely to happen, so the pint is safe.

I might take you up on that bet Grenadier.
There could be a very big gathering at each of the dealers a few months after launch. A queue of warranty work when all the real life gremlins come to light, despite the extensive test programme. |

I’ll be getting one. It will used like I’ve used all my Landrover’s. I certainly will use it off road, at work in my tree surgery outfit and our trips into wales. My worry will be the same as when I take the 110, scratching it. Also I plan a trip to Morocco.
There is far too much hate in the thread. Live and let live. |

Well said Rob, change is sometimes difficult but like the grieving process acceptance comes to most.

Congratulations on your purchase Rob. Personally I don’t think it’s hate, that’s a strong word. For me it’s disappointment and a final confirmation that LR have moved away from its heritage. I hope you enjoy your purchase. Meanwhile my search begins for a new family addition to my 110 and 90. |

I haven’t brought one yet. It will be a commercial version if it ever appears. They are expensive so will have to work hard to get the money together.

..i dont know why people now days, so easy get triggered and classifying everything as a 'hate speech' or some kind of 'racism' and what not..this era of 'politically correct speech' is rather annoying..it seems, you cant simply dislike something or someone, without been tagged as a 'hater' or anything else..i personally think, new defender is a disaster for both, user and JLR, each for various reasons...is that makes me hater ?? NO..is that makes me want JLR go under water?..NO..im just saying that there are plenty of Land Rover and other car models out there, already modern enough, and that defender should be well upgraded platform, with purpose similar to its predecessors, appeal to wide audience and not yet another mall crawler, equipped with enough electronics and computer power to crunch weather data/supercomputing in real time, with price tag which is bizarre..that's just combination for a trouble, based on experience learn from JLR itself...too much computing/electronics and Land Rovers, never had a good reputation..but we shall see..

Talking a local dealer about it, if ever made for the public, it is not expected to be available before early 2021. Even then, is has yet to be seen what price tag it has, and what exactly one gets for that money. LR Belgium appears to be working on a "solution" for those who don't want to wait for the eventual commercial version, so the regular version could be registered as commercial vehicle, which down here saves you heaps of taxes. |

Just had a look at it at the Land Rover Party. Managed to sit in it and poke and prod various bits. I'm a bit ambivalent about the looks, but it looks like it will be a good replacement for my D4 when it goes. Similar concerns as others about reliability and fragility, but that applies to any new car.
I'm still going to keep my old defender though. Eventually, once the aftermarket parts suppliers get going and it is reverse engineered so that it can be mapped and a body of knowledge built up on here as to the common fixes and improvements it could well do most of what the old defender does. I'm just not sure that it will still look good with all four corners dented. |

Sorry if this has been posted before, I've followed most of this thread and not see yet. 4xOverland's Andrew St Pierre White separates hype from reality... Quite interesting/amusing...
