Clutch and gear change
Done 40k now in the puma and when changing gear it’s always clunky on clutch take up, is this to be expected as I have always had this issue and can’t seem to change smoothly. Just wondering is there a better setup option to be had .
Thanks in advance Cool

Failed clutch switch, worn drive flanges or DM splines can also have a great effect similar to gearchange issue that feel like the clutch.
Worn prop UJ's also possible, grease everything and see if there is any change.
The clutch switch, either replace or it can be bridged.

If bridged, it can put up a readable DTC but won't illuminate the MIL.
Much better driving characteristics and none of that annoying low range revving either.
Anti stall features also retained, the plug is a female JPT connector, plug and play.

These are cheaper options than paying out anything to try first and totally reversible.
Any greasing won't do any harm either, if it seems much better just by greasing it'll tell you that there is wear and will be a temp fix.

Thumbs Up

Failing this of course, further investigating might be needed but worth a try. Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸

The rear is often the most likely culprit with the halfshafts and splines and flanges.

However, mine started at around 60k and your mileage is a bit low but worth checking.
And excessive movement when the handbrake is applied can also be a tell tale.
The clutch switch if dodgy usually creates a sporadic poor drive take up and or rev hang on gear change.
Often will feel like it hasn't gone into gear and is clutch slip for a second or two.

It was supposed to prevent shock loads on the drivetrain but if driven properly I cannot see any issue and gives better driver control without in my view.
As I said, it also gets rid of the rev hang in low range but retains all anti stall properties by bridging it.

Mine has been much better without it, and has been bridged for a couple of years now as has another members on here with no issues.
It can log a DTC which can be cleared but has never illuminated the MIL on dash.

Drives lovely. Thumbs Up Chillin In The Backwoods🇬🇧🇺🇸
