How much of a gap should there be guys? On my USW the bonnet sits quite tight along the wings, but there is about 3/4 of an inch gap above the grille panel - enough to see the spring and latch mechanism. I thought the bonnet wasn't shut properly but that is as far as it will go. Its an aircon grille if that makes any difference - what kind of gap should there be?
Cheers. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

It can't come any further down as then it would be compressing the wings.
Maybe it just shows up cos of the contrast with the silver bits and the green body, which wouldn't be so obvious on yours... 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

The gap on my 90XS is 1 cm under the R of Land Rover, with an even gap along wings.

Looks about the same as mine then. Maybe I am just expecting too much progress for the poor old Defender... 2011 110 USW

I'd measure mine but my tape measure doesn't go that far.
(for the bonnet gap that is) I have a/c and same issue. Shut properly. Perhaps it's a design feature: additional air cooling. |

They do say that there are only two man-made things that can be seen from space -- the great wall of China, and the panel gaps on a Defender.

Funny you should say that..... years back I shoehorned a 3.9 EFI into my old 90, which always ran hot, even with a big TD radiator (that's why I love diesels!) anyway, for extra cooling i wound those front screws right down so the bonnet sat up slightly with a large gap at the front. It did help cooling a bit. |

Quite interesting, I guess the gap is some kind of mud eater option?
