So they have been for the last nine years! I was trying to reconcile 2009 with the tense of "become" (rather than "became").
Given that they have been part of the test for nine years and nobody's noticed or whinged about it, I don't suppose it is much of a problem. It is useful to know however. |

Mine's never presented with a tow ball, as I take the slider off the ladder when I'm not towing something with it!

Me too, there's quite a lot to digest in this thread.

It shows the type approval is not whole vehicle but for a component or in the jargon a STU (Separate Technical Unit): Extract from the Framework Directive 2007 46: "The EC component and separate technical unit type-approval mark shall consist of: 1.1. a rectangle surrounding the lower-case letter ‘e’ followed by the distinguishing letter(s) or number of the Member State which has granted the EC component or separate technical unit type-approval: 1 For Germany 2 For France 3 For Italy 4 For The Netherlands 5 For Sweden 6 For Belgium 7 For Hungary 8 For the Czech Republic 9 For Spain 11 For the United Kingdom 12 For Austria 13 For Luxembourg 17 For Finland 18 For Denmark 19 For Romania 20 For Poland 21 For Portugal 23 For Greece 24 For Ireland 26 For Slovenia 27 For Slovakia 29 For Estonia 32 For Latvia 34 For Bulgaria 36 For Lithuania 49 For Cyprus 50 For Malta 1.2. In the vicinity of the rectangle the ‘base approval number’ contained in Section 4 of the type-approval number preceded by the two figures indicating the sequence number assigned to the latest major technical amendment to the relevant separate directive or regulation. 1.3. An additional symbol or symbols located above the rectangle, enabling certain characteristics to be identified. This further information is specified in the relevant separate directives or regulations. 2. The component or separate technical unit type-approval mark is affixed to the separate technical unit or component in such a way as to be indelible and clearly legible. 3. An example of a component or separate technical unit type-approval mark is contained in the Addendum." |

Just to complicate things...or maybe clarify...the UK legislation - "2009 No. 717 ROAD TRAFFIC The Road Vehicles (Approval) Regulations 2009" - makes a difference for implementation between new types of vehicle and existing types. Completed vehicles in category N1 29th October 2011 or 29th April 2013. I believe Defender N1 would be subject to the later date. That's before you get in to the "The Alternative Conditions and Temporary Exemption for the Purposes of Regulation" |
