As the years have gone on Land Rover have tweaked and changed the corrosion warranty (and the other warranties) so check your book not the website if your car is 3yrs old.

I would just point out my 15yr old defender and 25yr old defender never corroded the hinge and fake hinge (obviously the 25yr old one had the proper droppable windscreen) Mike

These hinges eventually corrode on all Defenders and no manner of scraping back, treating and respraying with powder coat or otherwise will sort the issue out. I am pretty frugal with my dosh Whistle but to pay £115 to get the problem resolved for good if they are looked after is a blessing Thumbs Up I suppose it depends on how long you are going to keep the vehicle.

I was going to get a pair in silver BUT the colour doesn't quite match and the black ones do look good matching the other black items - good idea Lorryman Thumbs Up Have you got any pics of your Landy which show it in full - couldn't find any.....looks nice.

Chris

My sentiments exactly Chris Thumbs Up Thumbs Up I bought the Defender to keep and intend to have it in 20 years, therefore the reason for fitting quality add ons. Yes they are expensive, but over time they will pay for themselves. There should be piccies in my gallery of the landy.

I was intending on buying a range rover once the defender got to 3 (as I prefer a new vehicle every few years) and keeping the defender for fun and launching/retrieving the boat off sandy beaches, towing the caravan etc. Unfortunately for LR I won't be buying any more new vehicles from them as the quality of their parts are poor, based purely on my limited experience with my defender. Don't get me wrong, I am glad I got my defender as it is the most fun in a vehicle that I've had for ages. Now here is where it all goes Pete Tong........the missus now wants a Land Cruiser LC4 instead of a Discovery solely based on our experience with the defender. And to be honest........I like it as well Whistle Are you allowed to own a defender and a toyota Question Will I still be allowed on here............or will I just leave now...............

Land Cruisers are great motors and will be an overhaul more qualitative product than the Defender Thumbs Up

As with most and probably yourself, it's the high enthusiasm level that a Defender gives that "helps" us put up with the shoddy workmanship. I can't believe I have paid 28K for a vehicle that has the beginnings of rusty cappings but far more serious rusty bonnet to bulkhead hinges. Having looked at all the other 60 plate Defenders it is a comfort they are exactly the same BUT you know those hinges will rot through the bulkhead in exactly 6 years 1 day Laughing

I am going to have a chat with LR but it may be a better option to take the hinges off now before any long term damage is done and get them galvanised along with the capping's. If I can drill them off and reattach them without removing the dash then this could well be the best solution after talking to LR. It really is no good relying on warranty work unless the part is replaced (and then you are in the same situation!) Once corrosion starts in Ally you cannot stop it and on metal it is difficult and I wouldn't rely on others under warranty work to do the job properly. Better to do it yourself for long term assurance, beats useless spray over anyday!

Now for a butchers at the motor Thumbs Up Edit, remember now - first class.

I planned to keep my 90 for ever and sold it. So far I'm pleased with the decision, despite missing it.

I actually don't believe LR are that bad actually...my 90 wasn't really that bad, there were some niggles; but there is with every car! The defender kept working when required and my preventative maintenance (not huge list) kept it good...

Anyway...now my worry is how to stop putting miles on the range rover! And how to stop stones coming near it. Mike

If you have a Toyota, i hope it doesnt go wrong for you.

My Dad has a Landcruiser Amazon 4.2 TD think its about 2004 ish.

He has his brakes fail about a year ago.

Over £3K to have it sorted (that was for one part and the work to fit it). To be fair its one of the only things that have gone wrong with it but F**k me, Over £3000!!! Current:D4 HSE

they do indeed look nice. I have been thinking, in the frost catalogue there is an anodizing kit ... might be worth cleaning up the window blocks and trying the kit ... although blue or red might clash on my green 90

for those who don't know ... have a look at www.frost.co.uk (lots of things in there you didn't realise you needed)

I've only seen these in natural silver form.

Do they still make them anodized in black???

Yes, please do, and try not to let the door hit you in the arse on your way out! Whistle

Bri- I need you to leave as you keep on showing nice shiney things with buttons and whistles which I can't afford, but still add to the ever-growing list of things to buy. Thumbs Up

On a serious note: The D4 and RR are FAR more superior in build quality than the Defender. Have a play with one before going to the dark side. My brother's Land Cruiser (he is in Oz) cost him over £5000 on repairs in a year before he decided to sell it..... for a Nissan Patrol..... when will he learn Rolling Eyes

@nikojo: Give Croytec a bell, when I asked about the anodized black ones they had 2 sets left which me and bob got, but they get more in as needed.

@Glyn: Mr. Green

She has moved on from LR now as she seems to think they are expensive to maintain. Apparently all the bits I have added and still want/need get classified as ongoing maintenance costs. Whistle
