Lack of Central Console on 2003 D90??
Hi guys,

Im totally new in here and will right up a proper intro soon...

am looking for a td5 90...came across a 2003 version (at least thats what it says on the logbook) which was imported from England to Malta 2 years back.

all well and good, what I cant understand is that this 03' 90 is lacking the central console later dash! - its got the 2000-2001 older type dash. The seller insists that although the 2002 model came out with the improvements, "some" still were made with the older dash.

Im not too sure about this so I wanted to see if anyone has any insight on the matter....?...alternatively anything else I can look out for (something a bit 'visual' is better rather than some engine part Smile )

thanks loads

Hi,

I think the centre console might be the only visual part to the EU3 spec defender 2002 on I think.

Its mainly engine as it was to comply from EU2 to EU3. Easy to spot visuals are catalytic converter after the turbo, water cooled egr ( but these may have been removed )

The head under the camcover is a lot different, but another visual is and external fuel rail wich runs along the left hand side of head as you look at it from the front of the car.

On the right hand side of the block as you look from the front there is a flat section with numbers stamped on, if you can see this then if it starts 10p then it is EU2 AND 15P is EU3 which is the 2002 on higher pressure injectors/flashable ecu/external fuel rail

First signs are though that it is an earlier 10p EU2, not all bad as they never completely fixed the early problems Rolling Eyes

Hopefully someone can confirm my points too as I am no expert.

Steve

Cheers Steve.

after I posted, I remembered about the one piece 'rounded edge' rear door.
but there again it could have been changed..

I would say that they should all have the centre dash after 2002 as even the ones with a 300tdi engine for outside the EU still had the centre bit. As far as i know some 2001 models had the newer engine but still the older dash but ive never seen a genuine 2003 model without it. Was it registered in 2003 or built in 2003?

The central bit as standard came at least into 2002 period. 300's didnt have it nor did early TD5's 99-01 for sure. Mike
