How do you think you could remove Hammerite from galv? I'd assume it's a chemical job rather than abrasive wheel? James

Yes, chemical; something like Jenolite but there are lots of options.
As an aside, and I appreciate that this is no help whatsoever, there must have been 7 or 8 of these Brownchurch racks being offered at Newbury this morning. What a spooky coincidence - that's the same stand that I bought a dog guard from Darren

Yup, that would have been perfect!! I don't suppose you know what sort of money they were asking? Newbury is a good 3 hours from me, but I do wonder when the next sale is? James

I have one with a rear ladder that I have just removed.
Is £200 a fair price? Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Hi, that is the rack I'm after but I fear you maybe too far away to make it worth it.
Could you tell me please the distance from the foot in the gutter rail to the top of the high rail? I may have made a boob in wanting this rack , James MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

That rack is similar to mine, but mine is a CUSTOM rack, in that the raised sides are only about 3" high, and there is no front or rear top rail, just the sides. I found it caught the wind too much, and was impossible to put on / remove on ones own , without scratching the roof. So I cut out the centre , llegged, section over the alpines. I now have 2 roof racks, each approx 3 ft long, the rear stays at the rear, and the front slides back towards the rear, and sits about the flat section of the roof. Both are easily removed. Should I require to carry long loads, i.e. 3m worktops, 5m skirting lengths, I loosen the front section clamps, and slide it forward, then back when job done. If you look at most pics of 110s down under, they seen to have a 90 rack fitted, and set at the back, this I believe is for aerodynamic reasons.

Click image to enlarge here's what I mean about the lowsides and being in 2 sections . probably not what you want, but it works for me , and is much lower,an easily manageable . |

I like the lower sides and splitting it in two is a good idea. But I'd imagine fir me once it's on it's on.
I'll have to modify it to suit our roof tent which will involve taking one side off. Can any one confirm overall height gutter to top rail?
