Is it a Series III 109" V8, AKA a Stage 1? Or a V8 One Ten? Advice? Change the engine oil much more frequently than you may be used to on a diesel. |

Thanks Darren.
How could people tell him he was mad to take it on? Mad not to, in my book. |

As we say in Aussie, "There's nothing like a V8"!! You need to put a nice set of pipes on it to properly hear that V8 working away! Pickles. |

Hi everyone
Thanks for the feedback. I should name check and thank Ade 90 who sold me the Landy and I think familymad owned it before him. Also A plan and Skytag for fantastic customer service. Pickles, I definitely intend to get a stainless steel exhaust system to soundtrack the V8. It's just a matter of gentle persuasion with the boss.... Slidey Windows, would you advise changing gearbox oil and engine oil every 3000 miles or so ? Gordon, hope you've got your new project and yes I did a piece for Look North recently.. Fame at last ! I have a few ideas for gently restoring my Landy whilst keeping it as original as possible. I'll try and post on here from time Regards |

Yes, definitely change engine oil every 3,000 miles as a minimum. I typically change mine at 2,500 to keep the sums easy and use Miller's trident oil. Apparently it has a high zinc content, which is required by engines with rubbing contact between camshaft and followers.
If you want a decent exhaust, go to P.D. Gough, near Nottingham. Cheap they are not but they will build you and fit an exhaust of superb quality with a guarantee to last forever. They will also build you exactly what YOU want. 12MPG? You're just not trying! If I drive like mother Theresa I can almost squeeze 20MPG out of mine, usually involves slip steaming behind an artic. If I come over all testosterone I can get down to about 7 or 8 which is why I rarely do it, sounds good though, the exhaust almost drowns out the gurgling noises from the petrol tank |

That's a very nice 110. My brother has a diesel version of the same age. I imagine the V8 makes it a much more civilised and quiet ride!
A bit later vintage (for all those kicking themselves for not buying your 110!!) spotted this on ebay- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFE...1438.l2649 2010 XS USW 1957 Series One 88 diesel 1958 Series One 88 4x2 Last edited by seriesonenut on 9th Oct 2018 6:27pm. Edited 1 time in total |

That you. It is lovely but the problem is defenders are very addictive.
I keep seeing 90 soft tops and newer diesel 110's and keep thinking if only.... There must be therapy for this affliction. |

I'll echo what Oneten110 said about PD Gough, Nottingham and stainless exhausts. Made me a special for a Morgan many years ago - superb workmanship. Defender 90XS SW
