...also make sure you change the water pump P gasket at the same time otherwise it’s going to leak soon after it’s all back together... |

‘P’ gasket?? you don’t touch anything to do with the water pump or gasket when swapping a 300 cambelt out, you only open up the timing chest so why would the p gasket leak??

Sod’s law......
You might as well change the fuel tank while your doing the cam belt, in case that starts to leak, maybe also the crank rear seal - you never know........ |

TimS that was with me supplying parts! I wont go into how much I was charged for the daft jobs that needed to doing for to pass the MOT, on top of that. I am going to start to research a different land rover specialist put this way, and one of the lads at work got charged 500 quid plus for his brakes, from the same place. Even he wasn't happy on what he was charged, He nearly died when I told him my total bill! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

You and your mate are getting well ripped off.
Defenders are ridiculously easy to work on. Sure they can be a bit annoying as they are old, but they were designed to be fixed with minimum fuss and cost. I would definitely not go there again. You can do most jobs including a complete brake disc/pad change with a basic Halfords tool kit, a gunson eazy bleed for £20 and a free PDF of the workshop manual. Parts are cheap too from a variety of suppliers online. The only additional things you'd need to do the timing belt is a long breaker bar and a tool for the crank harmonic damper which are about £60 on ebay. Oh and a box to stand on! Tim |

Oh yeah I have been well ripped off! The thing is starting to PAS fluid now from the steering arm, and it wasn't like that before it went in either.
My parents think they are the best like, and I think they are way too expensive. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |
