Getting away from the Autocar photoshop efforts loosely based on grafting a Freelander nose onto a DC100 or similar, which have been plaguing us for years, is there any real information that is actually from Land Rover themselves about the new model? E.g. a launch date?
I have long believed that the new model was a myth, and the story that one day it would be replaced was simply a lie being kept alive for marketing purposes. The existence of some 'mules' doesn't prove a lot except that there is a fairly short model out there being tested, for all that is obvious from the mules it might be the next Evoque. Is there any verified information at all, or is it literally all speculation? I don't mean McGovern rambling out of his big shirt about 'durable premiumbility', I mean as in something like a definite launch date/event being confirmed. I find it hard to believe that a model that I thought was supposed to be launched in 2018 has had NO spy photos of it anywhere. --- 2006 Defender 110 SW 300Tdi • 2011 Ford Ranger XLT crewcab • 2015 Defender 110 Station Wagon Utility TDCi |

There are mules running around (shortened L494 RR Sport) but other than that there's no info.
Lots of speculation/rumour but we won't hear much until LR decide to do a launch (at a motorshow probably). 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

I also think the new defender is a myth , JLR are extremely clever at marketing, fo example posting the recent video featuring the series1 , with the sole idea of keeping the enthusiast hanging on !
IMHO it’s time to bury the Defender and give it the dignity of being an Icon in motoring history I don’t think there will be a new defender and I hope that they don’t use the name on a new vehicle for me that would be an insult . There is nothing that can replace the concept of defender soley because these days they just aren’t needed. The market has gone for JLR |

B/M, out of interest, what are the views down there in the Falklands? Are people moving to Japanese pick ups, are American trucks imported from South America, or does the existing Land Rover fleet keep getting repaired and put to work? I know a few people who have moved there for work and took a 4x4 with them, usually a Pajero or a Discovery 1 or 2. Just curious, that's all. According to Sully Tucker in the Red Lion the other night build tests have started in Nitra, 01 build May 2019, hands on July 2019 customer delivery December 2019. Apparently Land Rover want to get as many new vehicles into the country before we leave the EU as we will have to pay import tax after Brexit. 130's have feeling's as well you know

I have been reliably informed that the delay is due to JLR's board employing various mediums to conduct seances to make contact with the deceased Maurice Wilks the original Land Rover designer as they have run out of ideas and think maybe Maurice Wilks will give fresh input.
Latest news is that Derek Acorah that well known spiritual medium has through his spirit guide Sam been in contact with Maurice and he has told the board their latest Defender design is crap so its back to the drawing board.
