Yes, you can do it by removing just the centre panel, but it is fiddly.

You can take the radio out and the centre section with all the switches on (it only takes 5 min to remove).
You also need to remove the metal support behind the radio (just held with trim clips). It's not a hard Job to do. It does help a lot if you have someone to hold the outside while you do the nut up. |

Thanks chaps - didn't know whether the washer came apart to avoid undoing the centre console.
I have had it out before when I put the temp gauge in though so should be a breeze this time Richard Defender 90 SVX |

Theoretically yes it does come apart. Land Rover sell the outer part on its own, but I seem to remember it was more expensive than buying the whole jet and then there is the chance it will just fall off or the remaining part will break when you try to fit it. In which case you end up buying the whole jet anyway!
It's not a big job to pop the middle of the dash out and change it. I'd say it's only about 30 min to do the whole job from start to finish. |

Strongly agree with Martin buy the cheap one and you’ll be doing it again soon- waste of time.

I had one replaced a couple of winters ago. Land Rover had stopped selling the jet part and it was no longer listed on the parts list I had to buy a complete unit and gently split the unit the super glue the jet part to the remaining original. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
