Puma jumping/ miss firing at high speeds
Dear all

I am a new member on this forum, but have been reading valuable info on this website for years.

I wonder if anyone can help, I am experiencing problems with my Defender 2009 Puma 2.4 tdci.

A week ago I changed a faulty injector as it was leaking after a very long drive through Europe.

Today I replaced the EGR due to hard jumping/ miss firing/ losing power for a split second at high speeds on the motorway, this only happens betweem 100-140 kmph. Around 2 hours after beginning my journey on the motorway, the car has began to jump again. There are no other issues showing on the computer when replacing the EGR at the Land Rover garage. I have also noticed when I am going slightly uphill, the car reduces speed dramatically from 130 to 100 kmph and the jumping starts again at a slightly lower speed than on flat roads.

When I say jumping/ miss firing I mean the car loses power for a second and powers up again as normal but keeps occuring every second. It is as if i am braking and accelerating again and again. I have noticed this only happens at high speeds and drives perfectly in town with no issues. I have never had this problem before.

I have no idea what the problem is, can anyone help?

Best regards
Liam

Thanks for your reply, it seems we have the same issue but no solutions.

The same problem keeps happening, I am 40 miles in to my journey to the south of France and its happening again. No warning lights, temp level normal, I am doing 100kmph and its the same issue now.

Has anyone found any solutions? Does anyone know how to stop this issue occuring?

Its so annoying, I had the car living in North Africa for a few years with no issues. I brought it back home to London last week driving from Africa, through France and to London and it happened once. I am currently driving to Monaco with it as we speak and its happening all the way. Why is it only happening now?

Help! Its breaking my heart!!

Just to check, was the replacement injector new, if so was it a branded replacement and did you have it's code programmed into the ECU.

Secondly, as it sounds like a fuelling issue, there are a number of things to check... Firstly I'd check the fuel pipes that would have been disturbed when the injector was changed - at high load a tiny weep could allow air in. Next I'd look at changing your fuel filter, again ensuring it's a branded one of good quality (I had an issue with a Bearmach one only a few weeks ago documented on this forum with intermittent loss of power). Then I'd look at the VCV with a view to changing it and doing a fuel pump re-learn etc. - again well documented on here.

Hope that gives you some pointers to start looking Thumbs Up Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon
