They can be made to fit but Boosts are under the recommended width for 285s.
Running them and 30mm spacers you'll have to get used to the sides of your car being covered in mud. Fit them for the Tonka Toy look rather than for their practicality. |

I've never seen anyone talking about tyres that size, they're certainly not one of the common ones. Defenders have been fitted with 205R16 (basic 90s in the early days), 7.50R16 (most utility variants), 235/85R16 (the more bling ones with alloys from 300TDi onward pretty much), 265/75R16 (the NAS ones). For taller tyres, 255/85R16 and 285/75R16 are the two common sizes but you can't get an all terrains in 255/85 in the UK. No branded tyres are truly crap, there are just some tyres that are better at certain jobs. For the kind of off road driving that I do, wide BFG All Terrains don't work anything like as well as my 7.50 Michelins (and I can confidentially say that based on personal experience). You get traction from the length of the contact patch in the direction of the force, rolling resistance from the amount of stuff that the tyre has to move out of the way (width and how much it sinks) and flotation from the total area in contact with the ground (width and length). Wide tyres obviously being better at high speed cornering and low profile wide tyres particularly so because you don't pull the inside of the tyre off the ground so much as you do with a higher profile tyre. For flotation you can let air out within the limits of your sidewall height and minimum inflation pressure - tyres don't get significantly wider but you greatly lengthen the contact patch. Obviously for a given pressure, the narrower the tyre is the longer the patch. To get the same length of patch with a wider tyre you run them at a lower pressure which should improve the ride. |
