a little Trick, if you have an old spare steel wheel, take that off and place the hub in there so that you can wind off the disc. basically you are using the wheel as a jig for the hub, makes tapping in the bearings easier too, as the wheel is flat
My dad loved it, as he used to have a little trouble with getting bearings back in, If you don't have a steel wheel, then id just buy on off ebay, just to use as a jig. I kept my old spare wheel for this purpose Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

Another quick question, possibly not the last, does anybody know the part no for the bolts you need to replace. Or alternatively the dimensions and material.
Thanks Keith |

Having changed disc's on several Range Rovers, Disco and Land Rovers over the last 30 plus years the only advice I can give to add to what's been said already is :-
Make sure you get the correct part, some sellers don't know that there is a difference on some models, from a reputable company. Invest in a hide or soft face hammer to prevent damage to the new disc ,I have seen them shatter if a metal hammer is used. Make sure you get the new disc on square to the axel and don't rely on pulling it square with the bolts as a new one can jam and the bolts feel tight. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Do I need to torque the hub nuts when I put it all back together? Assuming I do but how do you do that with the box spanner?
Thanks Keith Keith |

Does anybody have the wear limit measurements or tolerances for 110 Puma front discs. I do a fair few miles but may only touch the brakes ten times on a 25 mile commute. I don’t want to change them if they’ve got loads of life in them. Current ones have done about 40000 very gentle miles as have the pads with lots of life in them.

The Haynes manual says, Brake disk pad thickness 3mm. That's how it's written so i assume it means disks and pads.Your disks should be fine after only 40k if not abused. 130 crew cab

Front disks thickness new 24 mm, minimum allowed 22 mm. Same numbers for rear disks are respectively 16.1 mm and 14.1 mm. Took the numbers from the certificate my dealer had to issue for the Swiss MOT this week. The measured thickness on my 110 after 101.000 km which is still on its original factory disks was 22.6 mm front and 15.2 mm rear, so still well within spec. Eric You never actually own a Defender.
