i think its just the actuation of the mech that varies, you need an early (side mounted mech) cable to operate a disc brake Cheers

From memory some of the bracketry is different as well. On a defender the caliper sits near the top but is on the side on a disco due to clearance on the transmission tunnel. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

For the discovery version the calliper sits at the 9 o'clock position and the defender one is the 12 o'clock position.
I think the defender version had a better cable clamp also, which spans the two bolts that hold the calliper. The disco uses an 'L' shape tab locating on one hole which is prone to moving when applying the hand brake. |

that is right now you mention it i forgot.
defender one sits at 11oclock. disco one closer to 9. you can always redrill the mounting holes on the caliper bracket to re position. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

Was only £80 so not to concerned, once I pick it up on Friday I'll have a look and decide if I'm going to use it or not. Thanks to all for your help.

I'd try and stick the pads into the caliper with silicone as well... mine used to rattle a lot, in the end I swapped it for a standard unit as I got so fed up with it.

Similar rattling issues with mine. I've mounted it numerous times with plenty of grease on the sliding bolts following the instructions to a T and whilst better, I still get a rattle/cheep-cheep noise from it. I found silicone didn't last too long and the pads are now held in with tigerseal but it's easy enough to remove them with a sharp knife. I'm deliberating about going back to standard, just because the noise annoys me 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

just FWIW, I've had mine on the car for so long now that I can't remember when it was fitted. It was a 'quick fix' to the OE brake which was 'catching' as the car slowed for traffic lights etc.
I think I did have rattling noises to start with, and I think I did silicone the pads into place - or at least used something in there. Now though, it's been completely silent for years and just works... absolutely trouble-free. When I say years, I mean comfortably 10+. When the X-Eng Brake was released by Simon he did add to the fitting instructions that if a rattle occurs then try and use some silicone to hold the pads in place. Mine rattled initially so gave it a try and its been noise free for about 5years
