Gareth Southgate article on the BBC:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-44715244 At the very least he is a gentleman, humble yet who leads from the front, talks sense, remains controlled and considered, but can also wear his heart on his sleeve. But he is fast becoming a bit of an England legend: Consolling the Colombian who missed from the spot. True character... Click image to enlarge And what winning means to him. True leader... Click image to enlarge I'm no football fan, reserving my viewing solely for Worls and Euros, but GS has really brought something special into the England set-up and created a team that is more than the sum of its parts, but who for the first time since I gave up watching in 1991, genuinely feel an England shirt is bigger than their club, and the team is bigger than anyone player. They've exceeded expectation, lead admirably by GS, I hope this run continues. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Is that England won the world cup now or something ?
Beaten by Belgium and narrowly scraped through against an imploding Columbian team on goals all scored from the penalty spot ........ Hopefully they can get their act together and start scoring more goals from open play instead of just the two the currently have already . Luck is certainly on their side for now to have progressed to this stage. Best of luck lads ......from a jealous sweaty sock 2006 DEFENDER 90 TD5 CSW XS 2018 RANGE ROVER SPORT HSE DYNAMIC |

Southgate is a classy chap and it was a nice gesture, typical of the man. However some of the England players were as bad as the Columbians. Diving and rolling, clutching faces and falling like they'd been shot by a sniper. It was embarrassing but even worse was Glenn Hoddle on commentary. When a Columbian acted up they were cheating but when one of ours did the same it was "clever play". I really hope the next England game is either on the BBC or Hoddle gets ill and replaced by Garry Neville. |

Zed, perhaps I should have said, "It's a pity that some of the players didn't have the same standards as GS", and left out the word Columbian. Defender 90XS SW

Southgate is probably the best manager England has had for years he seems to have the right attitude and the England team, though perhaps not the best we have ever had, seems focused and because they are mostly young players fame has not yet gone to their heads. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Fame has not yet gone to their heads?! Mmmm, look up the salaries, WAGs, cars, houses and lifestyles....although I give you this group do appear a bit more grounded than the generation or two before. Southgate seems like a decent chap, good set of values etc. Isn’t it odd how the same organisation can appoint a pikey like Allardyce one minute and Southgate the next? That says a lot to me about the calibre of the top bods at the FA. Can you imagine fat Sam running the show in Russia?
I really hope England go on and win it, all things are possible in the knockout stages. France look like an explosive package to my non footballing eye- youth, pace and raw confidence are game changing in any sport. |
