One club man
I went to a business breakfast thing this morning - first time for everything - and the bacon roll was very nice. The main reason for going was to listen to Chris Pennell talk about his career to date. It was one of his first public speaking events and he did a great job - he had no intention of becoming a professional rugby player, he didn't think it was something he could do. He was born and grew up in Worcester and aged 17 the club asked him to train and gave him a couple of games (he broke his leg and dislocated his ankle in the third game). They had seen enough and signed him to the academy and he has been there ever since through various relegations and promotions, and won an England cap against NZ at Eden Park (might as well do it properly). It was interesting how much detail he remembered - his first touch in a premiership game (dropped a high ball), the moment he believed he was good enough to play professional rugby etc.

He came across as a thoroughly nice guy, with a solid stubborn streak to have achieved what he has with type 1 diabetes since the age of 19. He achieved his 200th cap this season and is hoping to play for another 2-3 years. I wonder how many players there will be in future that start and end a career at one club?
