Well here a week early for a flying visit. The queue to get back into Cluses was pretty bad already.

Feel so sorry for Richie Porte. He's been so unlucky at grand tours.

Great stage today. Tough on RP. Bring on Annecy. By chance I have to take Mrs Grenadier's car to Annecy for an oil change. If I get my timing right.... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Riveting stage, but Iβm not sure it was completely appropriate to have a mini Paris-Roubaix in the Tour (dangerous to the point of being a bit of a circus). Still - it did make excellent telly!!

Absolute carnage at the TDF today. Poor old Richie Port with a suspected broken collar bone, when will his luck improve? Romain Bardet must have got the man of the match today, where was the rest of team AG2R when he needed them? Defender 90XS SW

How many punctures did Bardet get? 4? 5?
Seriously bad luck or perhaps also riding too much over loose bits. Or maybe the team got tyres wrong. Anyway to make it back so many times was very impressive indeed. As you mentioned earlier, thank goodness it didn't rain. The organisers got lucky there. |

Caught up with the highlights and it was such a day of attrition
In more mundane news from today got up (and down) the Col de l'Iseran (first time). Defender content alert! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Great Col Martin. Well done you. Actually even more beautiful on the Italian side.
This photo sums up Arras to Roubaix yesterday. Sweat, tears, dust, crashes, GC contenders and classic specialists alike fighting at the front. Epic day. Click image to enlarge Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

I think he had two differing problems. The first two stoppages, bike swap and then mech adjustment, had him playing with the end of his drops. Boulting and Miller didn't know what he was doing, which is a bit strange as pro cycling commentators, but I think it was clear Bardet was trying to adjust his Dura Ace Di2 'Junction Box', as seen in the photo below, meaning he was having a Di2 mechanical problem. Lots of Roubaix regulars stick with mechanical over fly-by-wire gearing for this exact reason. Punctures then exacerbated the situation. There have been accusations that Bardet was repeatedly brought back by French TV and team car
Matt White from MitchScott in particular was very pd off in a radio interview. Basically called him out as cheating and blamed organisers for turning a blind eye. Perhaps not such an impressive ride after all. |
