United States 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Alpine White
Ravenol Brand?
I am having difficulty finding compatible fluids that are listed here and other UK sites, in the USA. I am getting my 2.4 ready and need to track these down. I noticed that I can get Ravenol brand motor oil and gearbox oil on Amazon here and they seem to meet the specification call outs I have found. I have not noticed you guys mentioning this brand so I figured let me check and see if there is any feedback. Thanks

It's a German company.

https://www.ravenol.de/en/company/history.html

It's one of the smaller lubricant manufacturers like Millers or Comma in the UK, small compared to Castrol (BP) or Exxon-Mobil. It is available in the UK, but oil is more readily available from the UK based manufacturers, which is probably why you don't here so much about it.

I expect it's good stuff, just I'd have to make an effort to buy it.

I bought it used with tranny from a guy on the west coast. Honestly not sure how he got it. Removed from a 130 that he was doing an LS engine swap to. Have been seeing more and more 2.4 and 2.2 engines here in the USA. These are not coming over complete in PUMA version trucks, just as engines I believe.

Can you speak to a USA JLR dealer to get the spec? James

They seem not to be too up to date on the specs since they haven't sold defenders here in years. Ford service department has been helpful and has the transmission fluid in stock.

I have the specs from the manuals, but since diesels and manual transmissions are a minority here it seems that the major brands do not stock the same items in the US.

I would have thought the engine oil should be easy to find. It's nothing really 'special', it's used in most modern diesels I think. I expect the Ford V8 diesels used in pick up trucks would use a compatible oil.

The 2.4 is less fussy than the 2.2 because it doesn't have a DPF.
