Anyone have an overdrive suitable for a series 2a they wish to part with. Must be in good working order.

Thanks

There are at least four for sale on eBay at the moment.

Save your money and get a Romerdrive, I would say the days of getting a good Fairey on EBay are long gone!

I’ve got 4 and only one is useable, the rest are long overdue a rebuild, one of which had allegedly been fully rebuilt Rolling Eyes
by the time you spend £500+ on parts, £500+ for the OD your well on your way to a decent Romerdrive . Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Yes Roamerdrive is the way to go, the last Fairey OD I bought was supposed to be in good condition and not noisy, it whined like a banshee so I took it out and gave it back to the seller. I bought a Roamerdrive several years ago and it was fine.

It always amazes me that all the O/Ds on Ebay are low mileage units,
Always had regular oil changes, no wear anywhere, very quiet, been in use until last week.

They are probably one of the most neglected parts of a Series Land Rover! Laughing 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Ebay descriptions often crack me up, though.

There are more "barn finds" than barns!

Almost everything is "very rare", even if it was mass-produced!

Every Fairey Overdrive is (as you say) "low mileage", even though most were bought off a friend or "guy I trust" and have never been used by the vendor.

Everything is is "good condition for age" (i.e. knackered) or "good pre-accident condition"!

Caveat emptor.

I like this one....

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Series...Swb39bFsfK

Sorry if it belongs to a forum member?

The whole description reads fantastic, new gaskets, until the last paragraph,

So in other words it’s noisy, just like all the others!........ Laughing

...But at least it's been cleaned up and the "metal bracket parts" painted gloss black!

It is perhaps surprising that the vendor owns a S1 86" but does't know if the o/d fits.

As always, it could be a gem or it could be a nail, but at least the arse is thoroughly covered!

Series 2a O/Drive
Thanks fellas for all the replies. I had been warned that good Fairey OD's are like hens teeth. I'll take the consensus and look at Roamerdrive instead.

Your comments (and warnings) are very much appreciated.

If you decide to go down the Roamerdrive route checkout true Island 4x4 website, far cheaper than anywhere else.
I’m about to order one for my series one so I emailed them this week and they confirmed the prices are still as advertised on their site.
