Hmm I see it from another angle...
There's been plenty of (spam) posts flying around farcebook... "if you're in a shopping queue and you see a paramedic come in, let them go in front because it's the first meal/drink etc they've had for x hours blah blah blah" Well, when i know I'm on a long job at work, I make my lunch at home and take it with me. and for the last few weeks have a 2 litre bottle squash with me in the van. hey presto, no need to go to a shop! From that above story link, there's a quote ""I've been on since 6.45am this morning, I've had nothing to drink, nothing to eat." I don't know what time the ticket was issued, guess it's late in the day to make the time they've not eaten quite long. I just googled "ambulance strikes" and this year alone there's strikes mentioned for february, june & july by the ambulance drivers unions, striking over pay. Now surely such a union would be up in arms if their members were forced to work longer than 4.5 hours without a break (I'm sure this is the legal time?) |

all depends on if the units been well busy, or how many are in service with all the cut backs. The laugh is the idiot who ticketed the unit, isn't a ware that Emergency service vehicles are exempt from these sort of fines. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Mmmm a little harsh - saving peoples lives doesn't stop at 4.5 hours. if you were in crisis and needed an ambulance and the para was approaching 4.5 hours into a shift i know they would respond. The public would be the first to complain if they didn't because it was time for a break. Ambulance strikes is completely irrelevant - they should get more money for what they do. And yes my son is a paramedic - i see what he has to go through as well as nurses and doctors - long hours, poor pay and little respect. Ill get off my soap box now ![]() Range Rover Sport HSE |

My point was the ambulance union are quick enough to strike about pay. so I don't see why they wouldn't strike about working conditions.
Maybe the pay is bad, maybe they should get more, as should the armed forces and police, but all the people who join are fully aware of the pay scales when they do. My job isn't brilliantly well paid for what I do... I could always change jobs. the choice is mine, as is theirs. |
