Hi Forum,
i have a Quart Nautica 6 channel 540W amp which is part of the new audio system in the Defender - i have located a spot under the 'modified 2nd row seats. Like most of the electronics upgrades thus far i have created at min IP65/67 enclosed 'boxes' to protect them from dust/corrosion and where possible water egress. now begs the question i can i have space to do so with the AMP but i am concerned the heat generated by the AMP in an enclosed space will shorten life or in worse case over heat the unit. how much heat does an amp like this create? are they ok for enclosed spaces (as above) any pointers amp specs: https://mbquart.com/na540-6/ |

Fans, then there is no benefit in enclosing right?
What does the class refer to? |

They will need to be vented to keep them cool. I'm yet to find an amp other than passive radiator in-speaker amps that don't have fans on them. North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

I'got a full JL Audio set up sitting it the loft waiting to go into my 90, but I'm also worried about them getting damp. The 90 I have now is probably the most water tight of all the Defenders I've had - but still leaks quite a bit in the back and around the roof seals. Tried most of the creeping leak cures and even silicone... I suspect it needs a new seal at 18 years old
I went for a 400/4 and a 500/1 Slash Class D amps. The 400/4 runs a set of 4" ZR component speakers and used to runs a set of 6x9" speakers - but I sold them on with the last car. The big 500/1 runs a set of 3 x 10"W3v2 subs. More than enough punch for any situation The ability to adjust the boost from a control knob mounted up front is very handy too They're well over 14 years old now, but apparently the Slash is still regarded as the best amps JL Audio ever made 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320 |
