You joke about the Dacia pickup but they already exist, it's called the Oroch:
There's also a pickup based on the Jeep Renegade platform called the Fiat Toro: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge All South American market only as far as I'm aware. |

"The odd one out is the Defender because in 20 years time it will still be a useful truck whereas all of the others will be made into recycled bean cans. Am I right, do I get a prize as well?"
You're right, but for the wrong reason: all the others will have been humped, dumped and trashed, remaining Defenders will be gathering dust in conditioned garages, their owners proudly proclaiming: "It's worth an absolute FORTUNE... if only it were legal to drive anywhere" Peter (currently in France, trying to source a first-generation A110 Alpine; less than 2,000 will be made, as opposed to two million Series/Defenders. Which one's gonna be the better investment?) |

Birdy, good point. However in 20 years I wont care but in the meantime my 110 will be in use every chance I can. With luck my Son will take it on, retro fit it with an electric motor and battery and carry on. My series one turned 60 this year so it might just happen 1984 One-Ten CSW

All those trucks except one are appealing to the concept of fighting "toxic masculinity". The windshields are sloped more in congruence with western mens decline in testosterone and the body moldings are more rounded like a woman.
What's my prize? |

Good thread Gren
All those modern double cab pickups were worked on by a team of young and talented (they can draw in perspective) designers, design engineers, aerodynamics engineers, package engineers and so on, were assessed by a board of directors who were given advice by highly paid sales and marketing specialists. Some will even have been sent to customer clinics. The goal was to create something that looks purposeful, rugged, and would the awake the emotion that makes people buy cars. Some are technically way ahead of the odd one out in the bunch, However, as far as looking purposeful, rugged and awaking the emotions of their owners and potential buyers, they fail pitifully against the Defender. However, a modern Jeep would have messed up the comparison. Their designers seem to spend the right amount of time working with their heritage and refining their icon. They do pop out a few duds along the way, which appear to sell anyway, just like some of these pickups..... 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

Interesting. All I can say is that my 3.2 Auto Ranger double cab that I purchased new has been a lot less hassle than my last new Defender - no thinking about it make that all the Defenders I bought from new. That's from a dyed in the wool Land Rover fanatic, umpteen model owner of several decades standing. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. |

All the others are owned by questionable looking fellows who knock on doors asking if they can tarmac your drive.
