It's fair to say that it wouldn't be recommended. Darren

Yeah, I am in agreement too, as it goes against everything I have ever done and know to be right.
I just hate to see a brand new tyre go to waste๐๐ |

I would never mix tyres across an axle and would probably never mix them front to rear either.
But my OCD gets in the way of lots of things 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I've just had the same dilemma with another car, low mileage tyres but had a sidewall puncture in one of them. The tyres were superseded a couple of years ago and the replacement was a totally different design so it had to be a complete new set as I have never mixed tyres and as above my OCD would kick in. Iโm currently mixing tyres on mine, Conti on one axle and Grabbers on the other, canโt even remember which way round they are!
Have noticed nothing unusual in handling, even in the recent snow... when I have some spare cash (ha ha) I might sort them, but to be honest I do so few miles it just isnโt justifiable yet. If the various tyres are all the same โclassโ - i.e. you arenโt running mud terrains on the front and nearly slick road tyres on the back, what is the problem? (Genuinely - I canโt think of why there would be an issue) |

Here you can have different brand and model tires of the correct size on the two axles, but the two (left and right) tires on one axle have to be identical brand/model/size. I believe the same law exists Europe wide.

^^^^ Sounds correct, Iโm not too keen on using a new and an old tyre on the same axle even if the same too.
But I suppose thatโs just me being a bit excessive really. No Guts, No Glory.

If I recollect correctly, from an MOT perspective, you can legitimately have a different brand or 'version' of a tyre on the same axle as long as it's the same structure and size.
That is not the same as recommending it - just proposing it is not illegal |

True, Iโd imagine say a KM2 and an STT would be fine, but I doubt a GG TR and say an STT would be due to the different bias.
Not for me though, would drive me mad ๐ No Guts, No Glory.

I've got conti's on the front and bfg k02's on the back at the moment because I got a screw in the sidewall of one of the rears a few weeks ago so I changed both rears. My ocd wants to change the fronts to bfg's now but the conti's haven't done many miles so it's just a waste of money.......... We'll see how long I last. Ray

You're right Steve.
Of course as you well know from your unpleasant and frustrating experience, one cannot guarantee that all MOT Testers are referencing the same Manual....so one never knows what may be deemed acceptable and pass, or the contrary. Have to admit, the OCD factor must be taken into consideration Found this: Click image to enlarge |

This maybe of slight interest, just sidewall lettering on my KM2's...
