Gent's.
I'm hoping someone can help regarding wiring up my DRL's. I have 2 pairs of DRL's fitted (2 lights either side), each pair has a controller and I wondered if I need to use both or if I can get away using just one. I was going to wire the outer's on one controller and the inners on the other so I at least have a pair should there be an issue and then got to wonder if I need both. Has anyone any experience of this or similar please ?? Thanks, Mark |

No reason that they can't run on one BUT you need to check the output current for the controller you use is up to the job of providing power for 4 sets of lights rather than two.
Figure out what power/current each DRL draws then check the specs on the controller. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I might be wrong but I thought you were only legally allowed to have one set of drl's on. Ray

Thanks Dave + Ray,
I'm going to go with my original idea to run two controllers, one on the inner and one on the outer set. I like the look of the Urban twin set up which is where I got them + was basically copying that, as for the legalities I honestly don't know but there are plenty around with 4 and I haven't read anything on here regarding them so i'll give them a go and see Mark |

Not seen that mentioned in any of the legislation, as long as they don't dazzle other drivers there doesn't seem to be a limit on the number of DRLs, would be difficult to implement anyway as many DRL units often consist of multiple lights themselves. They have to have a control unit that either switches them off or dims them for use as side markers so perhaps if you dim them, rather than turn them off with the lights, they need to comply with sidelight positioning regulations too though ? http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ |

I thought I'd seen that you weren't allowed 4. However the new Renault Alpine has 4 definitely separate DRLs 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Brendan usually puts up links to the legislation so I guess it must have changed if new cars are coming out with more than two. Ray
