My 86" (with a 2286cc petrol engine and overdrive) will exceed 70mph, but it is a terrifying and truly awful experience! Certainly not for the faint-hearted.
It also takes about the same distance as a freight train to stop, which can be disconcerting when Auntie Mavis in her Micra pulls out of a side road in front on the "it's only an old Land-Rover, so it'll be going slowly" principle. |

My 86in with Its original running gear would make 55 to 60 on the flat on a Mway assuming the speedo was reading correct and that was also a terrifying experience made more so by foreign lorry drivers coming up close behind you and sometimes obviously not seeing you especially in bad weather
If I had to go on the Mway I would strap a reflective red and yellow board to the tailgate but in the end I gave up going on Motorways a good few years ago, being hit from the rear by some 30 odd tonne vehicle didn’t appeal at all ! |

Small's 1600 cc 80" is fine for the back lanes a B roads, anything else would be suicidal. I want to keep them both for a few more years yet 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue
