I'd like to an an EGT gauge to my Defender. I already have an Ultragauge that shows lots of useful information that it's picking up from the vehicle's CAN network. I don't want to add another display to the dash of my car, I'd like the Ultragauge to display the EGT temperature.
I think it should be possible to add another sensor to the existing CAN system. The hackiest way of doing it would be to buy a thermocouple, interface that with an Arduino and get the Arduino to talk CAN, that much is all within my capabilities. What I don't know is if any other part of the car will start complaining there's a sensor it's not expecting, or whether the Ultraguage will cope with an additional sensor that isn't part of the original installation. Has anyone done anything like this before? |

As long as you can find all of the module addresses and initialization codes to make sure you don't generate a conflict then I don't see why it wouldn't work, what would the network do with an unexpected code? It's hard to say but I would imagine just ignore it.
The Ultragauge should pick up any CAN signal I would imagine? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
