1991 Defender 90 200 Tdi HT Caledonian Blue

My 200 does this and it's possibly an earth IMO. Hear me out. I think the current/heat dries it out and then it works. When it's dry (occasionally) it will start normally. It could also be the small spade to the solenoid and a similar thing.

My 300 had the problem where it would just not start at all randomly. It would bump, so stop solenoid ok, but it would not crank. Switch was ok, it was totally random. You get in and randomly "it won't crank". I wired the magic box (immobiliser) out by looking at the circuit diagram. When I took the box apart and inspected it, it was like new. The 2 fuses on the right are to do with the alarm. If you remove the 10A one, that's the one which sets the horn off when the alarm goes off. The 5A one kept blowing and that was to do with it not working (after I wired the immobiliser out). I fitted a 7.5A instead (terrible lash up) and it was fine.

It was not confidence inspiring.

Double post edit.

Solution is to get a 200. The 300 alarm is a parallel universe. Mine did all sorts of weird stuff.

You look at the circuit diagram and the alarm is another magic box and everything goes into it. Any amount of problems open up a library of possibilities.
