I think because it’s on my land, the council are using that as their get out. Anyway, the police have kindly decided to help after I went back to them. Some poor PCSO is gong to be dispatched to see if he can work out who the owner is. I have offered to help man handle the carcass if required....

If that succeeds, fingers crossed the farmer will want to come and take it. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Tell the council you're worried it might have died of blue tongue or foot and mouth.
They'll soon be round.

Police have changed their mind again, aren’t coming, so I guess it’s going to stay there over weekend until I can try some other avenues. I’ll take a deep breath and see if I can get the code of the tag. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

You'll need some of that kit those chaps in Salisbury are modelling...come to think of it, ring the Police again & mention the shady looking blokes speaking Russian just before the sheep keeled over...

Ring your local knackerman (or slaughterman, even though it doesn't need slaughtering), look in yellow pages. He'll remove it and probably tell you whose it is.

You're a bit far from my patch, otherwise I could give you a number.

(Useful link, scooby, thanks) Thumbs Up

Make contact with DEFRA. Explain the scenario and they should point you to someone who will come and collect it. Have a look if you can to see if there are any ear tags and if so take a note of colour, which ear and number for your own records.

I would normally have a number you can call but am away from my records at the moment.

Or you could just chuck it in a wheel barrow and dump it down the road or ring the local curry house they’d have it..

Any dead farm animal needs to be disposed of correctly, so there will be a local company who drive around picking up the dead from various farms, recording the details etc. Cains are the folk around here, no idea if they are national. It costs about £14/15 from memory.

Good luck!

The plot thickens. Been and had a proper look in daylight this morning. No tag and an ear missing. Lack of blood might suggest someone removed the ear after it died maybe?....

Think I just need to pay someone to come shift it now. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Crikey, authorities in Lancashire seems to be covered in Teflon.

Why not say it is a Russian sheep? Then you'll get everyone in your garden having a look, including MI5 and the BBC. Might even get the army to take it away on a low-loader under canvas.

I had a Sergeant in the past, big hunter from Galloway, who'd have taken it off your hands. Given he wasn't averse to chucking any roadkill in the Wolf I'm sure a whole sheep would have been welcomed. Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....
