I don't have the mud light in mine but I run red lighting all the time and much prefer it for the reasons mentioned above.

Only downside, is occasionally you need something to see to read something or similar situation but then a map light type thing is perfect for that.

Each to their own but I prefer it, also if out and about I don't like say in a car park for example being lit up like a Christmas tree and everyone else can see everything in your Defender. No Guts, No Glory.
