Courtesy light issues
I’m having a problem at the moment with the interior lights on my 98 300tdi 110 csw. All was fine til a few weeks back went there both refused to go out when the switch is placed in the door option. I’ve checked all five door pin switches and all seem in working order. I’ve also checked the wiring connections on the lights and they seem all correct - not lose, corroded etc. The light circuit is really simple but I’m really scratching my head to solve it. Any pointers would be great, cheers. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Must be an earth issue, i,m no sparky but my understanding is that the door switches Earth when a door is opened thus completing the circuit and switching on the light. So perhaps one of the wires to a door switch has chafed through and is earthing out continuously. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Cheers Thumbs Up , hadn’t thought of that, will take an extra look at the wires. I had took the front door switches off a few month ago when I fitted the central locking and carpets so I might of damaged something. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

The 10AS controls the interior light. It receives an ground signal from the door switch and the does its magic to dim or come on with alarm fob. (if it has an alarm / imobilisor fitted) Not sure if the 300TDi had this as an option. It is fitted to my 1998 vehicle; although 50th Defender with engine ECU.

it would be unusual for all door switches to fail at the same time.
The courtesy light issue is a common fault with the 10AS.

Offer a cheap repair price.

It could be dry joints on the incoming connector on the PCB; would be a quick job to resolder.

Thanks V8GPC, it does have a the factory fitted alarm/ imobiliser fitted (along with an additional alarm) however the previous owners have cut/ bodged the majority of wires that come out of it for some reason .I ended up chasing the wires back to see that only one was still connected - however by some miracle it still works the engine emboliser and horn. The remaining cut wires I bundled up next to the alarm unit. I suppose I now need to work out where these additional wires originally go to connect them back up - though it doesn’t help that they are all black. Thanks for the link as well - definitely need to look into this. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Having had a quick look on the vechicle, it seems I got my wires crossed so to speak , the wires cut on my vechicle come out of this box

Which some say is a spider box for the alarm, whilst others say it’s a glow plug relay box, anyway I need to look an the green alarm box situated in the usual defender place 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Still having a mare with this. I ending up having the 10as tested for interior light issues - all tested ok and not faults
So I’m still none the wiser, I’ve remove the aftermarket alarm connections in case they were causing an issue as well.
The only thing I’ve noticed is that some of the wires going to the 10as (mainly the inputs for the interior light and the bonnet switch) are the opposite way round compared to the wiring diagram I have.
I’m convinced that I have disturbed something during the time it was off the road as I’m sure it was working when I first had it.
Any pointers would stop me from losing the will to live Laughing 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

Sorted Very Happy , traced the fault back to a dodgy connection on one of the yellow mutiplugs that sit by the fuse box. Nice to have working interior lights again. 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
