Can anyone recommend a trailer licence instructor in Cambs?
I want to take my B+E test and I'm looking for suggestions as to how to go about it.

I've seen intensive courses that get you through everything inside a week or less, and people that have a similar approach to a typical driving instructor where you have a few lessons a week. I don't know which is better, and I'm open to suggestions Smile

Have you done much towing before / how recently was your driving test?

As I'd towed a fair amount (from a small trailer on the road to a full blown 40ft hay trailer on the farm) before I went for a couple of hours with an instructor right before the test and that was it. You've got to bear in mind it's a full blown test so you can still be tripped up on all your normal things but if you've obviously got experience they may pay more attention to the trailer aspects, at least in my experience. There are some trailer specific maneuvers and checks but on the "drive around" aspects it's B test as well as E. Ed

I used C-way about 3 years ago, they are based near Peterborough and Tom the owner was a really nice guy / good instructor.

Having spoken to them on the phone and despite a fair bit of experience towing, I decided to go for the intensive course. It took 2 days, roughly 6hrs of lessons on the first and 3hrs on the 2nd followed by the test. Well worth it Thumbs Up

Thanks, C-Way came up on my searches earlier.

Passed my test 9 years ago and spent 5 years working on a farm, so I can (could?) reverse a trailer with a tractor well enough that it was usually quicker for me to reverse up a single track road than wait for an old person in a Corsa. That said, I was nothing compared to the more experienced people and I never got the hang of the trailer that had a dolly.

Only thing to bear in mind is tractor and trailer is far far easier than day 110 and Halford special. Tractors normally have phoenomenal turning circles and visibility and normally (and crucially) long trailers which makes everything much easier. Ed
