Metro never asked Land Rover owners
I thought this was a rather interesting read this morning. But it did make me think if that’s what people spend owning cars, how much do I spent as I’m already on my 4th Land Rover and still in my early 30’s!

Humm... Exclamation

OK a quick land rover defender ready reckoner...

On the above info they are predicting a lifetimes driving is 63 years (£27,716 / 439 pa)
and therefore car ownership cost per year will be £3280 (£206,625 / 63 years).

If I compare my experience...
300tdi cost new (1994) £18,400 sold 19 years later £9,000 Depreciation £500 pa
if you then add in £500 Servicing / Maintenance (DIY) pa and Tax at £250, Insurance at £250 pa.

Fuel over this period 120K mileage (6.3K pa) at 25mpg = 250gals pa = £1250 pa (roughly, at £5 / gal)

So that brings me in at £2,750 pa (80% of the cost of 'joe average')...

and I've driven my vehicle of choice... Very Happy

Also (I know we are in strange times) but the last time I looked my Puma has out performed the low depreciation
values achieved by the 300tdi

So for a Defender (probably) higher than most running costs...lower than most depreciation, overall not mad. SKIP

Lol! A very quick calculation based on mileage, average MPG, and average price of diesel, shows that I have put over £120,000 of diesel into my Disco2 and Defender since the beginning of 2002. That doesn't include repairs, servicing, tax (other than tax on fuel), MOTs, tyres, antifreeze, etc, and depreciation.

I don't really want to know what the total is, and frankly don't care.

Like Blackwolf I couldn't really give a _hit how much it costs me. It was just something to take up a few column inches - they were obviously short on fake news that day. Defender 90XS SW
